The Small Scale Fisheries Funders Network was formed to support collaboration and learning for donors that contribute to resilient and equitable small scale fisheries globally. The SSF Funders Network is a no-fee, virtually hosted networking group for charities, philanthropies, foundations and funding agencies to improve small scale fisheries outcomes for the benefit of communities, food security, economies, and the environment.
Funders that have joined the SSF Funders Network have a variety of funding objectives including marine biodiversity conservation and ocean health, poverty alleviation, food security, equity, and community resilience and livelihoods. There are many areas of opportunity that intersect with small scale fisheries globally and we welcome interested donors to join us and expand the opportunities for collaboration in this space.
Network calls and webinars
Each year, the network hosts four webinars. We invite guest speakers and provide time for ample discussion. The webinar topics are determined based on the annual learning goals of network members and have covered a range of topics, including: sustainable fisheries, gender and equity in SSF, communications, capacity building, impact investing, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Connecting with the work of grantees provides funders an opportunity to learn about challenges, opportunities, and successes when funds are implemented. Twice a year, the network hosts calls to provide opportunities for learning from grantees.
Each quarter, the network hosts an informal call for Funders to connect, provide updates on their work, and reach out to colleagues for collaboration and support for their work. These calls have been a highlight of network activity.
